Are you ready to feel old? Us neither, but here goes… In 2023, we’re asking what songs will officially turn 10 years old? It’s scary how fast time goes, but it’s also impressive to see what music stands the test of time. Most of these tracks are still played often, however, some may have aged less well… (ahem Blurred Lines). Nevertheless, it’s always nice to have some nostalgia. So here you have our list of 10 songs turning 10 in 2023… enjoy!
1. Hold On, We’re Going Home, Drake
Arguably one of the best Drake songs to date, it’s still shocking that this song is already turning 10 years old in 2023! It’s as catchy as ever, and ten years from now we’ll no doubt still be playing it!
2. Blurred Lines, Robin Thicke ft T.I. and Pharrell
This one didn’t fare so well over time, given the controversy around the lyrics. Nevermind songs turning 10 in 2023, try 70 years by the type of misogyny in this. Nevertheless, I’m sure we all remember the beat behind it a decade on! It’s just one of the many songs Pharrell also got involved in 2013!
3. Get Lucky, Daft Punk ft Pharrell
As we said, Pharrell was just everywhere in 2013, but this song is a happy number that will keep going strong. Daft Punk is known for tracks such as ‘Around the World’ in 1997 and ‘One More Time’ in 2000, but ‘Get Lucky’ proved they were still at the top of their game decades later.
4. Wake Me Up, Avicci
This song blew up everywhere, and you’ll no doubt remember the chorus still! Sadly, Avicci passed away in 2018, but his legacy remains, evident in this song which turns 10 in 2023.
5. Roar, Katy Perry
Katy Perry is still as fierce as she was 10 years ago in ‘Roar’, but we can hardly believe it has been that long since this song was released! ‘Roar’ was nominated for a Grammy that year, and the video proved just as popular. ‘Roar’ is turning 10 in 2023, but it’s also turning 1 billion in video streams, making Katy Perry the first artist ever to have two music videos reach that number (Dark Horse was the other if you were wondering).
6. Best Song Ever, One Direction
Was it? Was this One Direction’s best song ever? We’re not sure, but it was definitely popular back then and still so. But this song does show its age as it turns 10 in 2023. Back then they were five fresh-faced lads straight out of X Factor. And now… well, they broke up and Harry Styles is dominating the charts solo and starring in movies.
7. Wrecking Ball, Miley Cyrus
This song is somewhat iconic, not just from the powerful lyrics but also the image of Miley swinging on a giant ball. It’s a great ballad and shows off her vocals, but we’re still in shock this song is turning 10 years old in 2023… This one definitely feels more recent for some reason.
8. Heart Attack, Demi Lovato
If you need to belt out an energising song, this one is still just as good as it was 10 years ago. It’s all about feeling excited when you like someone, which never ages! ‘Heart Attack’ won the Teen Choice Awards back in 2013, as well as receiving lots of other nominations. Now, as this song turns 10 in 2023, it’s still a belter.
9. All of Me, John Legend
Written for his then-fiancée-now-wife Crissy Teigen, this powerful love ballad is still played regularly. Any emotional rom-com or teen drama series has a good chance of featuring this song at some point. It’s also famous for being a wedding song – can you imagine how many newlyweds have danced to this? We wonder how many are still together too… 10 years is a long time!
10. Wings, Birdy
Another hauntingly beautiful ballad that’s still very popular! ‘Wings’ by Birdy is a song about a happy past. We hope this is fitting for our list of 10 songs turning 10 in 2023.
