It’s often been said that dogs are a man’s best friend. So it’s no wonder you want them to join in when you sit down to relax at a cafe with a coffee and cake. So if you’re ever out with your dogs and are in need of food, a dog-friendly cafe will come to your rescue. Luckily, Nottingham has a number of dog-friendly cafes that will make both you and your pooch happy. From cosy corners to spacious gardens, each cafe offers a unique place that caters to the needs of dogs and their owners. Our list covers 10 of the best dog-friendly cafes in Nottingham to choose from for whichever corner of the city you find yourself in.

1. Portland Coffee Company

This one, as the name might suggest, is located in the Portland Building of the UON University Park campus. Portland Coffee Company is a staple of Uni Of student life, with all sorts of hot drinks, cold drinks, sandwiches, brownies and snacks that anyone needs. Plus, they are dog friendly! It’s the perfect option if your parents have come to visit and brought the dogs. You can take them for a long walk around campus, then reward yourself with a trip to Portland Coffee.

2. Café Sobar

Café Sobar is a vibrant, alcohol-free cafe and bar in the city centre. It is run by a local charity specialising in alcohol and drug recovery, meaning you’re supporting a good cause. This is one of the best dog-friendly cafes in Nottingham for a number of reasons. For instance, there is a 10% student discount (we students love a good discount). There are plenty of plug sockets if you want to come in and do some work, and you’ll be greeted with a number of friendly dogs when you visit. What more could you want?

3. Homemade Café

Homemade Cafe is in the old cricket pavilion building in the heart of Forest Recreation Ground Park, just to the northwest of the city centre. It’s closed on Mondays, but open from 10 am until 4:30 pm Tuesdays through Saturdays and 4pm on Sundays. The cafe is super dog friendly, with a dedicated dog-friendly seating area, where they’ll be greeted with water bowls and treats.

4. Fox Café

Fox Café is one of many great restaurants on Pelham Street in the city centre. It specialises in vegan food, with a wide variety of breakfast, lunch, coffee and cake options on the menu. With a small but decently sized outdoor seating area, it’s the perfect spot to get some lunch with your dog. But, bear in mind that it is often quite busy, as are a lot of the venues on this list.

5. Bread And Bitter

Located to the north of the city centre in Mapperley, you will find Bread and Bitter. The menus are catered to all different needs and tastes, with an emphasis on vegan dining and the traditional Sunday roast. For those who drink, they have lots on offer: four craft keg lines, a wide range of spirits and wines and some well-maintained cask beer, as well as soft drinks for those who don’t.

6. Prickly Pear

Prickly Pear is another great option for any vegans out there looking for dog-friendly cafes in Nottingham. Their menu is exclusively vegan, but that does not mean that their food is not full of flavour. The location is particularly convenient as it’s a short walk from two prominent dog walking locations, the Arboretum and Forest Recreation Ground. If you like their food, then you’ll be pleased to know that they’ve recently opened the first vegan pub in the city, The Golden Fleece.

7. Cured

Cured Cafe and Bar is, as the name might describe, a cafe and bar that serves charcuterie, cheese boards, bagels and fresh wine. It’s on Carrington Street, a prominent location within the city centre, right between Nottingham Station and Broadmarsh. It’s also right on the canal. So, you can take your dog on a picturesque walk along the Canal and then reward yourself with some food at Cured. It’s a little more on the expensive side, but it’s worth it.

8. Malt Cross

The building was originally constructed in 1877 as a Victorian music hall and has retained its features to this day, so Malt Cross is definitely one of the more unique venues on this list. It has quality food and award-winning drinks and ales, as well as hosting music and other live events. Plus, for those of you that are graduating, they are hosting graduation lunches, where you can get a meal and a glass of champagne for just £21.95.

9. Bendigo Lounge

This is another one for the UON students. Located on Beeston High Street, a 15-minute or so walk from the University Park campus’s west entrance, you will find Bendigo Lounge. They have a wide range of food on offer, from brunch to sandwiches to burgers to tapas to salads. The best thing is that dogs are welcome and are greeted with a water bowl and dog biscuit. What more could your woofer want?

10. Ye Olde Trip To Jerusalem

Ye Olde Trip To Jerusalem is one of the most famous things in Nottingham. It is the oldest pub in the UK, which claims to have been founded in 1189. The expansive garden area, when the weather is nice (which, considering this summer, might be a while away) is the perfect spot to chill out with your dogs post-walk. It’s a Greene King pub, so if you’ve ever been to one, you know that you’ll get a variety of good quality food and drinks for your visit.
