The city is home to lots of cool venues like The Old Market Assembly where you can salsa, or embracing the elegance of ballet at Hamilton House. For those who love a bit of everything, The Dance Space at The Island is your go-to for a mix of contemporary and experimental styles. 1. Salsify

If you want to give dance classes a try, Salsify at Bristol’s Salsa Academy will get you off to a flying start. Based in the Southbank Club in Bedminster and The Hideout in St Jude’s they offer different levels of classes to suit your ability. 2. University of Bristol Salsa Society

For fun, social dance classes that won’t break the bank look no further than UOB’s very own salsa society. With Salsa classes on Wednesdays and Bachata classes on Thursdays the society provides a great way to meet new people and learn something new. It’s never too late to join! Half-year memberships can be purchased for only £10 on the SU website. Members pay £3 per class (although regular pricing is only £4.50) and get discounts on shoes, dancewear and event tickets. They also run a Salsa Family scheme where you can meet and support other society members. They offer unmissable events such as the Bristol Salsa Ball as well as fortnightly socials where you can dip into Flamenco, Samba and the Cha Cha. You’ll always be kept on your toes (ha!) and learning something new. 

3. Bristol Dance Experience 

Teaching Ballroom and Latin since 1991, Bristol Dance Experience is one of the best local places for dance classes. There’s no need to book and you can pay as you go. Even better, no previous experience is necessary and they recommend wearing whatever’s comfortable! You can turn up on the day as a couple or on your own. All classes are only £8. You’ll get the chance to meet like-minded people and make lasting memories. Make sure to bring along cash or a cheque as they do not accept contactless payment. 4. Strictly Pink at Dance Factory  

Strictly Pink is an exciting programme of dance classes designed for Bristol’s LGBTQ+ community. Incorporated in strictly classes held on Sundays and Tuesdays, the hour-long classes cover ballroom, Latin and salsa. Followed (of course) by a social! 5. UWE Bollywood Dance Society

Calling all UWE students! This society is perfect for those looking to revisit old memories or try something new. They offer regular dance classes and workshops in Bristol. You’ll get the chance to hone your skills in Bollywood dancing, as well as explore some of the styles that influenced it, such as Bhangra and Kathak. For UOB students looking for something a bit closer to home, why not join Bristol’s Bollywood dance classes? Lessons are on Thursday from 6-8 pm costing £2 for non-members. For £10 a year, membership is also well worth buying! Between Bollywood movie nights and dance showcases there’s really a wealth of opportunities to make the most of. Additionally, they also audition to compete in the national competition Just Bollywood – could that be your next destination? 

7. University of Bristol Dance Society 

Want to start dance classes but can’t pick a style? Worry not, UOB’S dance society is the place for you! With professionally taught dance classes in over 10 styles, you’ll be spoilt for choice. Jazz, contemporary, tap and lyrical are only some of the classes they offer. ‘I used to do ballet but stopped, so it’s a nice way to pick it up again’, reported a member. ‘For ballet, you spend half the class doing bar work and the other half on centre work. Joining workshops in jazz, lindy hop and the Charleston, you’ll be swept away by the infectious rhythm of swing music. They offer weekly drop-in sessions where you can come by anytime. Classes are mainly held in Southville and Easton. For £10 a class (and £8 concessions) you’ll have unforgettable experiences in a welcoming atmosphere. Their intensive lindy-hop beginners’ courses run over 8 hours on the weekend (4 hours a day). During these classes you’ll learn some of the basic foundations before progressing to their weekly Level 1 classes in Easton.
