PerIt’s officially summer body season and to celebrate I’ve made a list of gyms with student memberships in Leicester for you all to take advantage of! Go in to work on your pecs, arms, or just show off your nice gymwear. Whatever you need the gym for, I’m sure you’ll find the one you need on here!
PureGym – best student gym membership in Leicester
166 Walnut St, Leicester LE2 7GR / 1c St Georges Way, Leicester LE1 1SH
I’m sure that you’ve all seen the ads on TV recently of the dancing ball of fluff. That alone is enough to convince me that maybe going to the gym is actually fun? PureGym has two locations in Leicester – one near the Royal Infirmary and the other near the train station. Both are convenient no matter which university you go to – and they offer a really good student membership too! If you verify with UniDays, students get 30% off their first 6 months of membership and a £0 joining fee. Meaning you can try the gym out for free for the first month first to see if you like it, then get a hefty discount on the rest!
There’s a lot of benefits to going to a gym like PureGym. They offer 24/7 access, so there’s no need to squeeze in a workout before class or rush to hit the weights on the way home. You can also get free multi-gym access outside of term time. Pure Gym offers a huge range of exercise classes, but also has first-rate personal trainers available if that’s more your thing. They have 220+ pieces of kit on site for you to use, which is a ridiculous amount! There’ll be no queuing for the rowing machines in this place! So if you’re looking for a long-term discount, I recommend going for either of the gym locations in Leicester for a student membership.
The Gym Group
3 Raw Dykes Rd, Leicester LE2 7JZ / 4A Causeway Ln, Leicester LE1 4AP
The Gym Group is an absolutely massive building, it’s probably the biggest gym in Leicester. Their range of exercise classes cannot be beaten, by the way. They offer mind and body classes, fundamentals classes, strength and conditioning, and cardio! All are free for members, but you can also go for personal training here too if you like! There’s some seriously cool equipment here too, like their HIIT zone. It has a battle rope – which if you’ve never seen before then you’re in for a treat. Like PureGym, The Gym Group also has two locations – one near the Odeon Luxe and the other in Highcross.
Their student membership starts at £149 for a 6-month saver, though you can opt in for 9 or 12 months instead. At the moment they’re offering 20% off of student 12-month memberships. That means you’ll get a whole year for the reduced price of £224, which is an extremely good deal! It works out as about £18 a month, or £4 a week! Steal! I think that this gym has the best value-for-money student membership in Leicester. Did I say that you get 24/7 access here as well? Go on down and hit the weights after some window shopping, or go for a workout then relax in the cinema! Take advantage of this offer while it still lasts, especially if you’re a final-year student like me!
Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Leisure Centre – best value gym membership for students in Leicester
50 Duns Ln, Leicester LE3 5LX
The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Leisure Centre is more than just a gym. No really, it is. You can either come for a workout or exercise class, or use their 25-metre swimming pool. Or their climbing wall. Perhaps you could try their eight-court sports hall? Not your thing? Try their dance studio. There is quite literally something for everyone here! Plus it is in a brilliant location too, just across from Castle Park and above the DeMontfort campus. It’s not too far of a trek if you’re a University of Leicester student, either. The only downside? It’s not 24/7 access, so you’ll need to check their opening hours on their website.
Students get the most bang for their buck here, with there being three membership levels depending on what you’re there for. The bronze monthly student membership is £13, but is only for those who want to use the swimming pool. The most expensive monthly student membership is the gold tier, which is £24. Though I’d recommend going for an annual membership instead, as you save a lot more this way! An annual gold membership is £199, compared to paying £288 in 12 monthly payments of £24. Choosing this option also gives you access to 50 other gyms across the UK at no additional cost. So when you’re home for the summer you can join your local gym instead!
Everlast Gym
52, 56 Halford St, Gallowtree Gate, Leicester LE1 1DA
Everlast is a name that is always associated with great gyms for me, and the gym in Leicester is no exception. This one can be found next to Flannels in the city centre, so another convenient location! One thing that I like about Everlast’s student membership is that they offer it to anyone who is 16+. So if you’re in college, university, or heading back into education as an adult – as long as you have your student ID you’re good to go! The offer here is you can get a student membership for £20 a month. There’s also the option of a monthly rolling contract or a 6-month contract.
There isn’t 24/7 access here, however their opening times are still pretty decent! You can visit Monday to Thursdays between 6am and 10pm. Then they open between 6am and 9pm on Fridays and 8am to 6pm on weekends. On their website they have a timetable of when each class is happening, with if they’re happening in the cycle studio or on the gym floor. I actually really recommend trying one of these out, they’re a lot of fun! There’s also a sauna and protein bar to take full advantage of, so what more could you want? Their links with other fitness perks like diagnostics and healthy meals are good too. This is a great place for those who are seriously into their gym stuff.
The Warehouse Gym
24 Lunsford Rd, Leicester LE5 0HJ
The Warehouse Gym makes some really good points as to why you should join their gym. Firstly, they have double or more of each machine so you’re never left waiting around to use equipment. They also include a nutrition plan and a training program into their membership so that you have more support depending on your fitness needs. Finally, you actually see where your money goes – they pride themselves on investing membership money back into gym equipment every 18-24 months. Most gyms don’t really bother with this so this is quite refreshing to see!
It is a little further away, being in the Saint Matthews/Spinney Hill area, but the travel is worth it! At the moment they are offering students a membership discount of £44 a month, which sounds a little expensive but really isn’t! If you include all the extras I mentioned previously, plus unlimited access to the gym, then you see that you really get your money’s worth here. Plus it works out to £11 a week, or £1.50 a day – which The Warehouse Gym says is the same price as three freddos. Would you rather have a banging summer body helped by a gym that cares, or three freddos and no summer body? I know what I’m picking. They aren’t 24/7 but their hours are very good, with more details available on their website.
So there you have it, the top gyms with student memberships in Leicester! Now you’ve got your summer body ready, why not check out how to create your dream wardrobe on a budget?
