We all know how important it is to keep fit and healthy, and running is a great way to do just that. But it’s even better, and safer, to run with friends or as part of a group. Many people join running clubs for this reason, and clubs usually offer team races and charity runs which are great fun to get involved with. Here are the running clubs in Nottingham that you could join.
1. Notts AC
The Notts Athletic Club was founded in 1928 and is now the largest club in the East Midlands with more than 600 members across an age range of 8 to 80. Whether you want to do track running, road running, or cross-country running this could be the perfect club for you. Training times depend on your age and ability so it is better to check directly on their website for times.
2. Redhill Road Runners
This sociable and friendly running club is located in Arnold, and they meet every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at Redhill Leisure Centre. The runners regularly compete in cross country and on-road events and have a variety of teams suitable for everyone of any ability whether you are a recreational runner or a trained athlete.
3. Holme Pierrepont
The Holme Pierrepont Running Club was formed in 1982 and is one of the counties longest established running clubs. They have training sessions on Monday and Thursdays at the National Water Sports Centre, and also enter dozens of races each year. The club currently has over 300 members, about 40-70 of each attend on their club nights. The club also has an active social calendar, with numerous events throughout the year.
4. Rebel Runners
This inclusive and friendly social running group is based in the city of Nottingham, where they meet numerous times throughout the week in a range of locations for a variety of routes and distances. This running group is also free to join, so you do not need to pay either a monthly or annual fee.
5. NTU Athletics
If you are a student at Nottingham Trent University with an interest in athletics, whether it be sprint, distance, fitness or field, the NTU Athletics club could be the club for you. The team take part in local part runs, such as each Saturday at the Forest Recreation Ground, as well as other local cross country and road events. The club is also very sociable and has a variety of nights outs for its members to get involved with.
6. The University of Nottingham Athletics Club
Whereas if you are a student at The University of Nottingham, they also have an athletics club that you are able to join whether you are a casual jogger or an international athlete. The club competes in BUCS championships each year, as well the North Midlands Cross Country League and the Inter counties.
