The best
student cities
Choosing a university also means choosing a city. You will spend three or four years living somewhere — the social life, the cost, the safety and the culture of that city shapes your entire experience. This ranking puts the city first.

The podium
The three UK cities that scored highest across all five student life metrics.
Where you study matters. Where you live matters more. The best student cities balance safety, affordability, social life and a sense of community — and the data shows that the cities delivering this are not always the obvious choices.
We ranked 30 UK university cities across five metrics — safety, affordability, social life, pub density and student satisfaction. Each city score is calculated from its university data, aggregated and weighted. Cities with only one university are included where sufficient data exists.
