Overview

Is University for the Creative Arts right for you?

UCA is a specialist creative university spread across three campuses in the South East: Farnham in Surrey (the biggest, with the most halls), Canterbury in Kent and Epsom in Surrey. Each campus has its own school: creative and cultural industries in Farnham, art, architecture and design in Canterbury, and creative business and fashion in Epsom. Which campus you study at depends on your course.

All three are in pleasant, fairly quiet towns within reach of London, and campus communities are small and studio-based. But UCA doesn't guarantee halls, and the South East is expensive to live in. Halls cost about £132–£205 a week, so budget carefully.

You’ll love it if…

  • You want to study art, design, fashion, film, architecture or another creative subject
  • You'd like a small, studio-based community of other creatives
  • You'd rather live in a quieter town than a big city, with London within reach
  • You want cheap on-campus options: Farnham's Student Village has budget rooms from £132 a week
  • You're happy to make the most of a specialist rather than a big all-round university

Think twice if…

  • You need guaranteed halls: UCA doesn't guarantee first-year accommodation (95% of on-time applicants got a room last year)
  • You want a big-university social life with hundreds of societies and sports clubs
  • You might want to switch to a non-creative subject
  • You want big-city nightlife: Farnham, Epsom and Canterbury are all relatively small
  • You're on a tight budget for later years: private rents in the South East are high

UCA's Students' Union (UCASU) runs across the campuses with over 65 clubs and societies. Because the university is specialist, social life tends to grow out of studios, crits and shows rather than big union nights. End-of-year degree shows are a highlight.
