The cheapest bars in Sheffield revealed

Sheffield has been named the most affordable student city in NatWest’s Student Living Index 2021, and the cities nightlife is no exception to that. Sheffield boasts a huge number of different bars, clubs, and pubs, with something for absolutely everyone, particularly students on a budget. It can be hard at university to manage your finances, and to keep up a good social life with limited cash, but this list of the cheapest bars in Sheffield should be a helpful guide for when the student loan seems like a lifetime away.

Tropicana at The Leadmill

If a cheap night out is in the cards, you really can’t get much cheaper than Tropicana at The Leadmill. Tropicana is a relatively new club night in Sheffield that became popular in the days of lockdown table service but is still a firm student favourite and easily one of Sheffield’s cheapest nights. With cocktails for just £3 and shots from £1, you’d barely touch your overdraft after a night out here.

Tigerworks

Home to the £5 round, Tigerworks is definitely the place to be for a cheap night. Open until 4am, playing classic club tunes and being the perfect, picturesque place for a night out photoshoot, Tigerworks is not to be missed. It’s located on West Street, next door to other affordable student favourites like Molly Malones and West Street Live, it’s in the perfect spot for a bar crawl. The £5 round is not to be missed, with a VK, spirit-mixer, Jägerbomb  and Sourz shot all for just £5, your bank account will definitely thank you.

Molly Malones

Sheffield’s favourite Irish bar, Molly Malones, is not one to be missed. If you’re a student you can get pints of lager or cider, and double spirit-mixers for just £2.95 on weekdays. Malones hosts Big Fat Quiz every Tuesday and Irish Bingo every Thursday, both are which are free to play and give you the chance to win free drinks vouchers, and every week these nights are packed with students trying their luck: it’s not one to be missed.

The Harley

The Harley is a chilled-out pub just a 5-minute walk from The University of Sheffield’s campus and is perfect for a cheap, post-lecture pint. The pub boasts 2 for £8 cocktails from Sunday-Thursday, and a huge variety of cheap beers, wines and spirits. The Harley is also a great place for sports fans as they have BT and Sky Sports and show all the major rugby, football, darts, formula one, cricket and boxing.

Wetherspoons

Wetherspoons is the go-to pub for students, whether it’s for a cheap pub lunch, a couple of pints or pre drinks for your night out. Sheffield has 5 main Wetherspoons within the city, The Francis Newton which is just a short walk from Endcliffe student village, The Sheaf Island on Ecclesall road, and Sheffield Waterworks Company, The Benjamin Huntsman and The Banker’s Draft all in the centre or town. With bottled beer from £1, pints from £2.20, bottles of wine for just £8, and of course the famous 2 for £12 cocktail pitcher deal, it’s no wonder why Wetherspoons has always been a well-known student spot.
