Manchester has its fair share of food challenges. From local spots in the centre of town, spanning out to Prestwich and Bury incase you need to walk it off afterwards. These six food challenges will satisfy your cravings whether you’re a regular sweet treat lover or looking for a the breakfast of champions. Make sure you come hungry and ready to compete as you might just end up on the wall of fame in one of these well-loved food spots. Whether you are a talented eater, or want to start on the road to becoming one, this list of food challenges will show you where to satisfy your next big craving.
1. Celia’s Kitchen Man Vs Food challenge
Hot dogs, burgers and a bit of spice, Celia’s Kitchen gives a nod to the timeless reality show, Man Vs Food with a food challenge that would surely satisfy even the hungriest of students.
Celia’s challenges customers to three hot dogs, four cheeseburgers, two pounds of crispy chips, a bowl of spicy chicken thighs, four crispy chicken goujons, a giant tomato (bigger than than the one on your full english), and a generous serving of creamy coleslaw. Sounds like a pretty balanced meal to me, but beware it is rated at a 70% difficulty level.
With a time limit of one hour, it doesn’t seem too hard, unless you’ve had a big breakfast. Complete the challenge and it’s on the house! If you can’t finish it then I’d bring a friend or two to help you clean up and pay up the £60.
2. Diggie Lock’s French Toast challenge

For all the sweet treat connoisseurs out there, this challenge may be for you if you can’t pick where to go for brunch. Coming in at a 78% difficulty level, Dessert’s french toast food challenge offers up 3.5kg of double-layered French Toast, drizzled in toppings from strawberries and cream to icing.
I wouldn’t recommend this if you have an upcoming visit to the dentist and especially if you are someone that likes to savour your treats. The time limit is 30 minutes to finish the food and reap the rewards. Dessert will cover the £30 cost for the winners and on top of that gift you a branded Diggle Lock goodie bag and your very own winners wooden spoon. Savour it too long and your out £30.
Location: Diggle Lock, Warth Mill, Huddersfield Road, Diggle, Oldham, OL3 5PJ
3. Bunny Jacksons hot wing challenge
If you think you have the tolerance, the Bunny Jacksons’ food challenge is for you. It looks unassuming on the outside, ten wings in ten minutes. So what’s the catch? Well these hot wings are absolutely drenched in a sauce made from the five hottest chillies in the world. Theres no question why this challenge is rated at a 73% difficulty, and notorious for dethroning even the biggest spice advocates. The hot wings are not strictly on the menu, so if you’re wanting to give it a go, make sure you ask a member of staff.
Don’t worry though, milk, water and tissues are provided to carry you through the longest ten minutes of your life. For those that do manage to clear their plate, you receive a t-shirt and a picture on the winners wall. Not sure how great the compensation is for the amount of pain you might be in afterwards, winner or not.
Location: 1 Jack Rosenthal Street, Manchester, M15 4RA
4. Slatterys Chocolate challenge

For my serious chocolate lovers, Slatterys food challenge in Manchester offers up a large portion of their American-style fudge cake, paired with a portion of home-made chocolate ice cream, fresh cream and two chocolate pots filled with liquid chocolate sauce, washed down with a glass of hot chocolate. Think you can take this on for only £25
If you manage to eat it all without the help of your friends you receive a Slattery Chocolate Medal and a 100g box of handmade Chocolates so you can continue the challenge at home if you hadn’t already got your fix.
Location: 197 Bury New Road, Whitefield, M45 6GE
5. The Blackfriars giant pie challenge

Craving something a bit more comforting? The Black Friar in Salford challenges its guests to a giant pie, that must be pre ordered within 24 hours and eaten within the reserved two-hour sitting, priced at £65. It is designed as a sharing food challenge so perfect to for 2-6 mates to get involved, unless you think you can handle it on your own. The massive lamb pie can be ordered with a side of greens and mash, and if you are lucky enough to survive, then you are rewarded with your bar tab covered for the night by the pub. So it’s a win-win for all, unless you’re crazy enough to attempt this solo!
Location: 41-43 Blackfriars Rd, Salford, M3 7DB
6. Irish Breakfast Challenge at The Irish World Heritage Centre Manchester
We have covered all things burgers and wings down to dessert, but what about breakfast? The Irish World Heritage Centre in Manchester has your weekend hangover cure sorted. It is available from 9am-12pm Monday to Saturday, and costs £15.95, just make sure to call and book ahead. The breakfast consists of: 4 Irish sausages, 4 rashers of bacon, 4 fried eggs, 4 hash browns, 4 slices of black pudding, 4 slices of white pudding, 2 slices of fried bread, 3 slices of toast, 2 scoops of fried mushrooms,2 fried tomatoes, and 2 scoops of baked beans all to be finished in 25 minutes.
Winners will receive a refund of £15.95 on their breakfast, and their photo will be added to their breakfast challenge wall of fame. This seems like a fast track into a food coma, but for £15.95 not finishing doesn’t seem so bad if you also count this as lunch…and tea.
