Huddersfield is a quiet student town that provides its students that unique mix of city life surrounded by countryside town living. Its indoor activity places are made to cater to the hustle and bustle of the vibrant student life present. Huddersfield provides students with a chance to have a lively social life that is affordable and fun. Socialising with friends is a great way to add to your uni experience, so here are a few recommendations of indoor things to do in Huddersfield, whatever the weather!

The Light

There are a number of indoor activities that you can feel your free time with when staying in Huddersfield. A new but very popular place for students is The Light, it has everything to offer you to keep you busy. Whether you fancy a bit of friendly competition in a game of laser tag or axe throwing with friends; maybe you want a classic bowling and cinema night with your flat mates whatever you want to do, the Light is bound to have it, making the Light a fast becoming favourite for entertainment in huddersfield. One of the main attractions it has to offer is how affordable these activities are, especially for students. They make it super budget friendly and with it being opposite the main campus it is easy to get to by foot so is an easy go to place for socialising with friends.

Stuck in the Riddle

If you are looking for something a bit different, then an escape room with a group of friends is a great idea! Stuck in the Riddle has a variety of escape room options available for you to try out with friends. The escape room is not far from the train station and is a 15 minutes walk from the Huddersfield Queensgate campus. This is perfect for if you have a mix of friends that commute to university and some who live in student accommodation. One thing to bear in mind though is that Stuck in the Riddle is a bit more pricey, especially if there is only a small group between 2-4 of you going, however if you have a bigger friendship group then it does work out cheaper when going in a big group so that is something to bear in mind. This is the perfect place to go to if you are wanting to do something a bit different to celebrate a special occasion with friends. Although they do have a festive themed escape room so maybe this should be at the top of your list for festive activities. This would allow you to do something a bit different celebrate Christmas early with uni friends before you all head off back home.

Parish

Huddersfield is known to have a lively independent music scene, just walking through town you can see this with the number of regular buskers scattered throughout the town centre. So it is no surprise that a popular place among students is Parish, where you can experience a relaxed alternative scene to catch up with friends over drinks while listening to some indie or rock live music. Parish offers a different night life experience for students where the setting is more relaxed and slow pace. The food and drinks are great in the Parish however compared to some other student favourites is slightly more expensive but can still be student friendly. even considering this, Parish is still a firm favourite for students and is somewhere you could go to regularly with friends, especially if you aren’t always buying food too.

Lawrence Batley Theatre

One of the only theatres in the Kirklees area is based within Huddersfield, a short walk away from the university. The Lawrence batley theatre has a range of events hosted throughout the year with tickets reasonably priced and opportunities for discounted tickets for students. It hosts a range of theatre shows from kids entertainment, pantomimes and comedy shows, whatever you fancy, the theatre probably has it on at some point throughout the year. Inside the theatre has a west end feel but on a smaller scale. One of my favourite things about the theatre is the historic feel it has to it, with a interesting history behind the building. The theatre is smaller compared to the theatres in the nearby big cities but has a better community feel to it; perfectly reflecting what Huddersfield has to offer.
