With over 20,000 followers across social media, we rolled out a nationwide student survey, asking young people to rank the factors they care about most when deciding where to go to uni. The results form the foundation of our new Unifresher Best University scoring system.

The awards are based on a data-led scoring system that combines academic performance indicators with student-focused factors such as cost of living, nightlife, sustainability, student satisfaction, and graduate employability. Each university is scored across multiple categories, weighted to reflect what matters most to students today.
Unlike traditional rankings that focus heavily on research output and entry standards, the Unifresher Awards take a broader view of the student experience. We include lifestyle, affordability, city factors, and real student priorities alongside academic performance to give a more balanced picture of university life.
Universities are assessed across a range of categories including teaching quality, research output, entry standards, graduate employability, cost of living, nightlife, cost of a pint, cost of transport, crime rate, student satisfaction, and sustainability. Each category contributes to an overall total score out of 100.
Yes. The rankings use publicly available data sources, recognised performance metrics, and structured scoring criteria. Where student-focused measures are included, they are based on reliable data and standardised comparisons to ensure fairness across institutions.
Absolutely. A university might excel in areas such as sustainability or nightlife but rank lower overall if other weighted categories score less strongly. The overall ranking reflects performance across all measured areas, which is why it is helpful to explore individual category rankings as well as the total score.
