Firstly every night out in Sheffield is a LGBTQ+ friendly one. Sheffield is a welcoming city and its student population is diverse and vibrant and the same can be said for nights out here regardless of the nightclub or the specific event. However, there is a range of dedicated LGBTQ+ nights out to support the community and create environments in which everyone can feel safe and accepted. Unfortunately in recent years lots of the LGBTQ+ bars and clubs have closed down, despite this there is a prominent queer community in the city, particularly within the student community.
1. Grapefruit
The Foundry, The University of Sheffield’s nightclub, hosts Grapefruit LGBTQ+ nights out that celebrate everything queer, welcoming the community and allies alike! With dance, chart, queer and disco music to keep up going and gender-neutral accessible facilities the Foundry is a great place to start!
Address: Foundry Studio & Fusion, Students Union, Western Bank, Broomhall, Sheffield S10 2TG
2. Gut Level
This is a not-for-profit live music bar in Sheffield city centre for members (membership costs £2 a year) and all proceeds fund community activity such as workshops and resources to learn more about their philosophy check out their website. One of my favourite of their principles is that every artist and DJ is paid the same regardless of how large their platform is. They host a range of events from FLAW DJ Workshop & Social for LGBTQ+ people, women and gender minorities to Degenerate Art Club – Trans & Non-Binary Life Drawing.
Gut level is a unique DIY Music venue, bar and community space that should not be missed out on!
Address: 32-34 Chapel Walk, Sheffield City Centre, Sheffield S1 2PD
3. The Leadmill
The Leadmill is personally my favourite club in Sheffield and it hosts a range of events from comedy to drag bingo dedicated to supporting the LGBTQ+ community that are definitely worth checking out! With cheap drinks, even cheaper if you invest in a Leadmill Regulars Card, and a photo booth at hand, what more can you need for a good night out!
Address: 6 Leadmill Rd, Sheffield S1 4SE
4. Crystal Bar
Crystal Bar is located in Sheffield city centre hosting tons of events such as Drag Bingo featuring dancing, confetti canons and fantastic prizes.
Address: 23-32 Carver St, Sheffield City Centre, Sheffield S1 4FS
5. Dempsey’s
Dempsey is an LGBT institution and has been open for 21 years. In that time, they have become Sheffield’s most popular and longest-running venue. They seem to do everything from club nights to karaoke and even Sunday Roasts so you can go straight back after your night out and recover from your hangover. They’re known for being open as late as 6 am so the fun doesn’t have to get cut short.
Address: 1 Hereford St, Sheffield City Centre, Sheffield S1 4PR
