Overview

Is the University of Winchester right for you?

Winchester is a small university in a small, historic and very pretty cathedral city in Hampshire. The main King Alfred campus is about 15 minutes' walk from the city centre, and the West Downs quarter is just down the road, so nearly everything is walkable. With fewer than 7,000 students, it's easy to get to know people and your lecturers.

The trade-off is a quiet social scene. Winchester is affluent and calm rather than lively, and the nightlife is mostly pubs and SU events, with Southampton a short train ride away. Halls aren't cheap either, at about £157–£256 a week. If you want a close community and a peaceful setting, it's a good fit.
