Where it ranks in the Unifresher Rankings 2027, what it’s really like to study there, and what halls and living costs look like.
London South Bank is a practical, career-focused university with its main campus at Elephant and Castle, right in zone 1. You can walk to the South Bank, Borough Market and the river, and the Tube and buses put the whole of London within reach. It has a big offer in health, nursing and engineering, and a very diverse student body, with many Londoners who commute.
LSBU's own halls are its big selling point: two residences with over 900 en-suite rooms, all within a ten-minute walk of campus, from £215 a week for 2026/27 with bills and gym access included. That's still a lot of money, and London living costs are the highest in the UK, so budget carefully.

LSBU's Students' Union runs clubs, societies and events, and halls have Residential Community Ambassadors who organise quiz nights, karaoke and study sessions. The real draw is the location: the Ministry of Sound is next to David Bomberg House, and Borough Market, the Southbank Centre and Mercato Metropolitano are a short walk away. Many students commute from home, so campus life is busiest in the daytime.
University halls cost £215–£295 per week (2026/27, bills, wifi, contents insurance and gym included) (2026/27 prices).
First-year accommodation guarantee
We couldn't find a formal accommodation guarantee on LSBU's pages. You can apply once you hold an offer (conditional applications aren't processed until you've met your conditions and accepted). For 2026/27, allocation started on 1 June 2026 and ran every two weeks until September, based on the Accommodation Allocation policy. When you accept a room you pay £300 advance rent (not a deposit; it comes off your final instalment).
| Hall | Area | Rooms | From | Good to know |

Top tip
Choose the right contract length: non-healthcare students need a 39-week lease (12 September 2026 to 13 June 2027), while healthcare students need 48 weeks because of earlier starts and placements. Allocation runs in rounds every two weeks from 1 June, so apply as soon as you can. Have £300 ready for the advance rent when you accept.
London is the most expensive place in the UK to be a student. LSBU's halls are good value for zone 1, but a standard en-suite is still £215 a week for 2026/27, or £8,415.71 for a 39-week contract, with bills, wifi, insurance and gym access included. Healthcare students on 48-week contracts pay £10,350.71. Budget for London transport, food and going out on top.
Getting around

Students can get an 18+ Student Oyster photocard for discounted Travelcards and bus passes.
