Overview

Is the University of Huddersfield right for you?

Huddersfield is a friendly, mid-sized university in a West Yorkshire town rather than a big city. The Queensgate campus sits right on the edge of the town centre, about 10 minutes' walk from the train and bus stations, so everything is close. It has a strong reputation for teaching and for giving students work experience.

The big selling point is cost. Halls are privately run but booked through HudLets, the Students' Union's lettings service, and rooms start well under £100 a week. The flip side is that Huddersfield is a town, not a city, and a lot of students commute. For bigger nights out, Leeds and Manchester are a short train ride away.

You’ll love it if…

  • You're on a budget and want cheap en-suite halls close to campus
  • You'd like a compact campus where everything is a short walk away
  • You value a strong focus on teaching and work experience
  • You want a smaller, friendlier town but easy trains to Leeds and Manchester
  • You might commute from home in West Yorkshire or Greater Manchester

Think twice if…

  • You want big-city nightlife on your doorstep every night
  • You want traditional university-owned or catered halls: halls here are privately run and self-catered
