Overview

Is the University of the West of England right for you?

UWE Bristol is a big, practical university on the northern edge of Bristol. Most students study and live at Frenchay, a self-contained campus with its own Students' Union, sports centre, 24/7 library and thousands of rooms in halls. The city centre is about a 15-minute bus ride away, and creative courses are taught at City Campus around the harbourside.

It suits people who want a campus base with a great city close by. The catch is cost: Bristol is one of the pricier places to be a student, and most Frenchay rooms cost over £200 a week. You'll also spend a fair bit of time on buses if you live in town.

  • You want a historic campus: Frenchay is modern and functional rather than pretty
  • You'd prefer a smaller university where you'll know most people on your course
  • You need a city-centre hall without a guarantor: Unite-managed city rooms require one
