Overview

Is Cardiff Metropolitan University right for you?

Cardiff Met is a mid-sized university with two suburban campuses in the Welsh capital: Llandaff in the west, and Cyncoed in the north, which is the home of its big sport offer. It's a separate institution from Cardiff University, and it's best known for sport, art and design, education, health and hospitality.

First years live in university halls at Cyncoed or Plas Gwyn in Llandaff, or in partner halls nearer the centre. Rooms for 2026/27 run from £156 to £225 a week, with catered options at Cyncoed. Campuses are a bus or bike ride from town, so you won't be in the thick of it, but Cardiff is a compact, affordable capital city.

You’ll love it if…

Think twice if…

  • You want to live and study in the city centre: both campuses are in the suburbs

  • You want a guaranteed specific hall: the guarantee is for an offer, not a particular hall, room type or price
  • You don't want to rely on buses: travel between halls, campuses and town takes time
  • You want a big, research-heavy university feel
