Overview

Is Keele University right for you?

Keele is a true campus university: about 600 acres of woods, lakes and parkland on a hill just west of Newcastle-under-Lyme and Stoke-on-Trent. Halls, lectures, the SU, shops and sports facilities are all on site, so most first years barely need to leave. With around 13,500 students, it's big enough for a decent social life but small enough to feel friendly.

The trade-off is location. Keele is fairly isolated, and nights out in town mean a bus or taxi. Halls are good value, though, starting at about £128 a week. If you want a calm, green, close-knit place to study, it's a strong pick.

You’ll love it if…

  • You want a self-contained campus where everything is a short walk away
  • You love green space: woods, lakes and a campus that feels like a park
  • You're on a budget: halls start at about £128 a week with bills included
  • You'd like a friendly, mid-sized community rather than a huge city university
  • You want to be within easy reach of Manchester and Birmingham by train

Think twice if…

  • You want city nightlife on your doorstep: town is a bus or taxi ride away
  • You don't want to rely on buses to get off campus
  • You're after a big, anonymous university with endless choice
  • Rural quiet would bore you more than relax you
