Overview

Is the University of Greenwich right for you?

Greenwich is a big, diverse university with three very different campuses. The main one is the Old Royal Naval College, right on the Thames in historic Greenwich. Avery Hill in Eltham is greener and quieter and has the biggest student village. Medway, in Kent, is a shared campus at Chatham Maritime. Most first years who live in halls are at Avery Hill, linked to Greenwich by a free bus.

For London, halls are good value: shared-bathroom rooms at Avery Hill start at about £146 a week, though halls in Greenwich itself cost far more. Undergraduates who make Greenwich their firm choice and apply by 30 June are guaranteed a room.

Think twice if…

  • You want to live right next to the Greenwich campus on a budget: halls there start around £212 a week, and most en-suites are £266+

  • You want a traditional campus nightlife scene: many students commute from home
  • Central London prices for going out and private rent (about £240–£360 a week, says the university) will stretch you
  • You're not sure which campus your course is at: check, because Medway is in Kent, not London
