UK Student Cities 2026/27
Browse 25 UK student cities and find yours. Search by name, filter by vibe, and explore Unifresher's in-depth guides to cost of living, accommodation, nightlife, student culture and what makes each city the right choice for your three years.
How do I choose the right student city?
Start with location (how far from home is right for you?), then cost of living (London costs roughly twice as much as cities like Sheffield or Leicester), then the character of the city itself. Our guides cover all three for every city below.
Which student cities are most affordable?
Sheffield, Leicester, Coventry, Swansea, Dundee and Newcastle consistently rank as the most affordable UK student cities. London is the most expensive by a significant margin, followed by Cambridge, Oxford and Brighton.
Which cities have the best student nightlife?
Leeds, Manchester, Nottingham, Newcastle and Glasgow are consistently rated the strongest for student nightlife. Bristol, Liverpool and Sheffield also have exceptional scenes. The "best" depends on what you like: big clubs, live music, bars or alternative venues.
Should I choose a city or a university first?
Most applicants prioritise the university, then consider the city. But if you know you want to live in a specific city (for personal, career or financial reasons), that is a completely valid starting point. The two decisions are more intertwined than UCAS suggests.
