Overview

Is Swansea University right for you?

Swansea is a mid-sized university with a big selling point: the sea. It has two campuses on Swansea Bay. Singleton Park sits in parkland west of the city centre, a short walk from the beach, and is home to most humanities, social science, health and medicine courses. The newer Bay Campus, to the east, is right on the seafront and houses engineering, management and computing.

The set-up suits people who like a relaxed, outdoorsy pace, with Gower beaches close by. Do check which campus your course is on, because buses link the two but they're a few miles apart. Halls are all-inclusive and mostly sit between £141 and £210 a week.

You’ll love it if…

  • You want to live near a beach and get outdoors, with Gower on your doorstep
  • You're studying engineering, computing or management and like the idea of a modern seafront campus
  • You want a mid-sized university that feels friendly rather than overwhelming
  • You'd like all-inclusive halls, where bills, Wi-Fi and contents insurance are covered in the rent
  • You want a smaller, more affordable city than Cardiff or the big English cities

Think twice if…

  • You want one single campus. Swansea is split across two sites a few miles apart, linked by buses
  • You want a big-city nightlife scene. Swansea is a modest-sized city, with the city centre as the main night out
  • You're on a very tight budget: the cheapest halls start at £141 a week, and most en-suites cost £176–£210
  • You'll be at the Bay Campus but want to be near the city centre's shops and bars. It's a bus ride away
